Basic Infertility Course
Course Description
This course is designed for clinicians who wish to pursue a career in Infertility. The course offers broad overview about causes of Male & Female Infertility and appropriate investigations for the same. It also gives an overview about how to interpret follicular scans and the psychosocial aspects of Infertility.
Eligibility
- Any candidate with a recognized postgraduate degree in obstetrics and gynaecology who has completed the fundamentals of reproductive medicine course
- Minimum eligibility is MD/MS
- An equivalent qualification would be considered for candidates from outside India (completion of fundamentals of reproductive medicine course is mandatory)
- This is targeted at clinicians who would like to understand Reproductive Medicine.

- Understand the regulation of the menstrual cycle
- Learn the process of folliculogenesis & folliculometry
- Develop an understanding of basic endocrinology in reproductive medicine
- Understand the psychosocial aspects of infertility
- Complete an evaluation for female infertility
- Complete an evaluation for infertility in a male
- Understand the concepts of Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
- Learn when to refer for more advanced procedures in assisted reproduction such as IVF, ICSI, etc
- Interpret Follicular Scans
- Discover the fundamentals of ovarian stimulation & IUI
- Learn follicular scans- (Skill-Based Training)
- Monitor IUI & manage Complications
- Design and set-up an IUI Lab
- Understand the concepts of semen analysis & semen freezing
- Perform IUI sample Preparation - (Skill-Based Training)
- Critique IUI techniques
- Observation of IUI procedure
- Learn the concepts of luteal phase support
- Illustrate the factors to increase the success of IUI
- Understand the current regulations governing IUI in India
Basic infertility course is basically a comprehensive course designed for clinicians who wish to pursue a career in Infertility. Any candidate willing to become a fertility counsellor should gain a minimum of 2 years of general post qualification counselling experience. They should have also, completed the pre requisite Basic infertility course, Clinical course and Embryology course.
